Laundry Tips For A Family Of Five

Keeping our laundry under control is huge. There is nothing worse than getting the kids up and ready for school only to find that they don’t have any clean clothes to wear. With three messy boys that equals a huge job. So I thought I would share with you our tips for keeping the laundry under control. I can honestly say that in the past three years I have not once found myself scrounging around for clean clothes in the morning. I think that says a lot, don’t you?

1) Find Your Products- It is time in your life to find a product you like, that works, and that you feel is right for you. It takes time out of your day to rewash clothes, and look for a new product. It costs money when you need to get rid of clothes with stains that don’t come out, and if your family has sensitive skin, you can find yourself with a bunch of itchy kids. Here is what we use and why.

We use the Get Clean Line and have for over two years (even before I became a distributor.) My favorites are the Scented Laundry Detergent. You only need 2tbs for a HUGE load in our HE front loader. For whites I through in a scoop of Nature Bright.

Stains- I use one squirt of the liquid detergent for pre-treating and the Nature bright depending on the flavor of stain.

Before The Get Clean Line I had tried every single natural detergent, including making my own. I spent so much time trying to get my clothes clean and stains out it really just wasn’t worth it.

2) Create Your System- You need to have a system in place so the laundry just happens, remember SIMPLE. If you have 37 different laundry baskets all collecting laundry in your bedrooms, kitchen, etc.. you may want to think about simplifying and consolidating into one large basket per floor. Unless you are lucky to have a laundry shoot. Here is what we do.

ALL of the clothes go into the laundry shoot. Before this house we put ALL the clothes into one laundry laundry basket that sat in the upstairs hall. It was wicker and had a lid so it looked nice in the hall. That way you only have one place to go to get the laundry.

Laundry is done by all adults in the house. Each of us will put a load or two in each day. When ever we have a minute we run down and throw a load in or switch them.

I found that setting a laundry “day” didn’t work. We ended up with too much laundry to get done on one day. We also ended up running out of clean clothes by the end of the week. My husband solution was always to go buy more clothes. Still makes me laugh thinking about it. Men…

Then in the evening when we are getting the kids ready for bed my husband folds a load and puts it away and then when we are watching television we will fold a load or two. It’s never an all or nothing system it just keeps it moving and it works for us.

Now I LOVE that Jon has a huge role in the laundry around here. However I have had to let go of things. Do all of the clothes get put away in the right place? Not all the time, are the socks a bit of a mess? Yes. But whatever it is a small price to pay for having clean clothes. I pick my battles. If I have a sweater of mine that needs special care I know to keep it out and do it myself.

Every household has to find a system that works for them. In my home, I have four baskets for sorting upstairs and do laundry nearly every day. The basket that is most full “wins” for that day.
