How To Prepare For Baby Chickens

If you follow me on Facebook then you know our ladies are moving in this week. We are expecting several of the feathered variety 2 Welsummers, 2 golden laced Wyondottes, 1 Partridge Rock, and 1 Barred Rock. We have to pick them up at the post office as soon as they come in. They will not have had anything to eat or drink during their entire journey so we will have to promptly get them into their little home.

I ordered the Baby Chic Starter Kit from My Pet Chicken, which is also where I order our chickens. They are so nice, I actually called and spoke with them to make sure I was getting everything I needed.

I set it up in the basement since it still gets pretty chilly at night around here. First I lined the floor with garbage bags and taped them down.

Set up the walls, the kit actually came with several more sections which I will add when they get a little bigger.

Next up I added the wood chips.

Water bottle and food. The instructions say to make sure that they are always full and let them eat as much as they want.

And finally the most important part is the ultra-violet lamp to keep them warm.

Tada! Now we are just waiting for the little ladies:)

I so want some chickens, but can’t in our neighborhood. Can’t wait to see your new babies. I bet your boys are so excited! What fun.

Did you obtain a permit to have chickens in your backyard?

  3. So, how is it going? Are you in love? How is the chicken coop coming along. I want details…
Thank goodness for that permit :)
