I am one who struggles to keep my house together. I love it when everything has a place and it stays that way but the reality is to keep it looking good it takes planning. I believe that your house should rise up to meet you when you walk through the door, thanks Nate Berkus. But with kids and a life that isn’t always possible, unless you have your own live in housekeeper and a cook.Which sadly, I don’t.
So the method that works for me is pretty simple. I MUST stick to my day planner and on each day I write 3 things. Dishes, laundry, floors. Each day I must;
1) Dishes- Do all the dish clean the kitchen. This doesn’t have to be all day. I mean once a day.
2) Laundry- My husband has primary laundry duty around here but there are times when he works late and we get behind. So every day I have to do one load of laundry.
3) Floors- Once a day I vacuum the downstairs.
That is it. If I am able to stick to these 3 tasks each day I have found that my house stays looking pretty good.

I have the same strategy, except that I found that with 4 boys now, the laundry has increased to 2 loads a day. ;(
I have 5 boys and I am finding myself many times feeling “behind” on EVERYTHING! It is nice to hear others ideas, any suggestions on how physical boys are and how to keep them entertaining themselves (without electronics) and without just physically smashing into each other?
5! Oh my, that is a lot of boy in one house. Let’s see… when they start getting antsy {i,e trying to fight every other second} I will take them all out to walk the dog. We have a little nature area close by so we all walk down and then around the little 1/4 mile woods. Takes us awhile b/c they stop and have to investigate everything.
I’ll take them to the playground, outside in the backyard to play with the hose, make them do a scavenger hunt. Other than t.v. taking them outside for some kind of activity is the only way to get them to CHILL OUT! I shamelessly bribe them with pennies to clean up. Took awhile to work but now they like it. How about you? Do yo have any secrets??
