As I have mentioned before I have been searching and searching for just the right desk for my works space. I have not had a dedicated area for me to work FOREVER, so I have felt a bit like a gypsie in my own home. Always looking for a place to make my own. However I just ended up with 30 little piles of papers and tools stored in random places all well out of the reach of 30 tiny fingers. Who are all set on expressing their creativity with mom’s stuff.
And last weekend, I finally found what I was looking for on craigslist. I believe this style is early american. It is well constructed with dovetail drawers and plenty of storage.
It did however smell terribly like smoke, click HERE to read how that was dealt with.
I immediately stripped the top to remove the smell as well as the old finish. The bottom I painted with a coat of primer and then several coats of Valspar’s Antique White. I finished the whole piece with Johnson’s paste wax. I also reused the original hardware, after a good washing.
I just love the natural finish on the cherry. And really you can’t go wrong with a little antique white. I have to say this turned out better than I had hoped and now I have the beginnings of my office, YAY! Now, if I just had a view of the ocean my little british colonial vision would be complete.
