How To Refurbish An Old Lamp

I have been looking for THE perfect lamp to add to the guest room. It should be beautiful, stylish and VERY inexpensive. Luckily I had this old lamp form T.J. Maxx circa 1999 laying around crying out for attention.

I love the shape of this lamp. It’s classic curves will look great in the guest bedroom. But the shade and the dark color are not working at all. Lucky for me I remembered reading a post on Isabella and Max Rooms called How To Get A High End Look For Less- Table Lamps. Just a bit of spray paint and a new shade was all it took. So I gave it a go.

Before
Primer

Paint color is Valspar baby blue

Tada!

I love this new/ old lamp. Maybe later if I am feeling really crafty I will cover the shade with some fabulous fabric. But first I need to figure out a paint color for this room. Any suggestions??

Thanks for the shout out Sarah. You've certainly proved it is easy to update an old lamp into one that is very beautiful and updated! Love the pale blue color you choose and the shade looks quite classic just as it is!

Good luck finding the right paint color! I gave up a long time ago attempting to suggest paint colors for rooms I'd not set foot in! :)

It was really very easy. I will tell you that the lamp needs to air out for a LONG time before you can bring it in. The spray paint is pretty stinky.

Beautiful transformation! I'm lovin' the shiny blue! I'm also lovin' the gray-blue color for walls I'm seeing all over blogland. If I can remember it, I'll let you know!

I love that idea! Will have to look into a gray/blue. Was it a dark or light blue?

Your lamp turned out gorgeous! I agree with Meg – a grayish-blue for the walls would be really lovely.

The paint did so well that it looks like it was made that way. I am in agreement with the others about the blues and grays.

I make over lamps all the time, and I love that fact that you didn't just run out and buy a new one. You did an amazing job and it's much more updated, with a fresh color!

Great job! This might be a stupid question, but what kind of primer did you use? Is it a spray paint primer? (Sorry I've never painted a lamp before, but I will definitely be trying it now!)

  18. Sarah @ threeboys-home.blogspot.com says:

I just used Valspars spray primer. Works really well!
